Introduction

Today is the day where the world celebrates the history and the flavourful drink of Whisky. Read on to find out more...

So, why is this day celebrated?

Back in March 2012, Blair Bowman, a 21-year-old student from the University of Aberdeen, discovered that Whisky did not have its own day like many other drinks. Therefore, he created one himself by making a website and spreading the word across the world.

20,000 people from 30 different countries took part in 180 planned events to celebrate Whisky and gained the support of the Scottish Government announcing the third Saturday in May to become World Whisky Day.

How can I celebrate this day?

1. Three words: World Whisky Weekender!. This is a unique interactive event series that brings together Whisky lovers and enthusiasts to discuss and deep dive into the world of the 'water of life'.

2. Drink your favourite Whisky or try new ones with friends and family.

3. Visit a local distillery.

4. Visit your favourite bar, restaurant or hotel that are also celebrating World Whisky Day.

5. Attend a Whisky festival.
